Welcome to Eretus Rivers Elementary and our school's web site!

I feel very proud to welcome you to our neighborhood school.  2007-2008 was my first year at E. Rivers and my first year as a school principal.  It was also our first year as an authorized International Baccalaureate World School.  What an exciting and encouraging year it was!

Due to the dedication and tireless efforts of our teachers and support staff, we realized many gains last year.  Our fifth graders posted vastly improved State Writing Scores.  93% of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students met or exceeded state standards on the Criterion Referenced Competency Test this spring.

Attendance was way up and tardiness was way down. We continue to be a Title I School of Excellence and posted passing scores for No Child Left Behind for the 6th straight year.  All of this while embracing students from more than 25 countries, 40% of whom are economically disadvantaged.  Quite a year, indeed.

I look forward to the opportunities and challenges this school year will bring.  This summer brought several milestones for our school facility.  We finally received 225 new computers as part of the districts new 'thin client' Student Technology Initiative.  We look forward to integrating these into our curricula.  Our gym boasts a brand new floor and six new basketball goals.  Lockers are on the way for our upper classmen.  Our organic garden is flourishing and our new Native Plant and Wildlife Trail is gaining ground.

E. Rivers continues to be a school with a dedicated, hard working staff, rigorous and relevant academics, committed parents, and a balance of cultural diversity not experienced in most public schools.

I look forward to meeting you and entertaining your questions at your convenience.  I feel certain you’ll come to appreciate and cherish this school and our teachers as so many others do.  Let me know your questions by emailing me at dwhite@atlanta.k12.ga.us or calling the office at 404-802-7050.
