From Principal White's Desk
As summer speeds by I wanted to give some updated information about our back to school activities.
Many of you have surely noticed the flurry of activity at E. Rivers this summer! We are having some roof work completed, new driveway resurfacing and summer cleaning is moving full steam ahead. I'd like to express our collective gratitude to the Peachtree Battle Neighborhood Association as well as the City of Atlanta for their work to provide traffic calming solutions to the intersection of Peachtree Battle Ave. and Peachtree Road. This will greatly enhance safety as our children and their families enter and depart our campus. They are providing additional crosswalks and curb-cuts for ADA compliance and have added extra green space. Lastly, they have converted the old "slip street" behind the lodge to a full stop sign. All these changes will, I believe, really be helpful to our school procedures. Join me in thanking those persons for consulting our administrative team as those plans were being developed. They were very accommodating to our needs and ongoing growth.
I feel fortunate to have been able to hire two dynamic new teachers who join our faculty family this fall. Mr. Charles Abdella joins Team 3. He comes to us from Miami/Dade Public Schools and brings a wealth of experience and ambition! Mr. Drew Ashton joins Team 4. Drew recently completed his Master's coursework and brings to our faculty the energy and enthusiasm of being new to the profession. I look forward to your families getting to know these gentlemen. I believe you will be as impressed with them as I am.
We're anxious for Celebration of Learning! Please join us on Friday, August 6th from 9:00-11:00 here at the school. Before entering, be sure to check out the class rosters displayed on the front windows. This is the way you will find out who your child's teacher will be. Then, please visit your new classroom and be sure to stop by the Auditorium at some point to learn about aftercare options and join the PTA and lots more!
The new school year begins bright and early at 8:00 on Monday, August 9th. That seems early! I encourage everyone to consider riding the school bus. We're adding a sixth bus route this year. It will relieve crowding and shorten drive times for routes 861 and 862. I'll post those details on the website as soon as they are provided from transportation.
Enjoy these last weeks.
I look forward to seeing the smiling faces of our children soon. We are going to have a phenomenal 2010-2011 School year!
