Reading Rocks!!!

Pick up a book today and get ready to join our E. Rivers Summer Reading Honor Roll!!

Calling All Rivers Star Readers

Join the Honor Roll of Summer Readers! Make sure your name is posted among the best readers in our school for everyone who visits the Rivers Library to see! All you have to do is:

  • Read (or have read to you if you can't read yet) 10 or more books between May 23rd and August 11th.

  • Write down the titles and authors of those books and bring that list to school with you in August.

  • You may also join the fun at the Atlanta Fulton Public Library's "Catch the Reading Bug" Summer Reading Program starting June 1st and ending August 1st. Again, you can list the same books and authors that you are putting on your E. Rivers sheet.

  • For more summer reading fun, get a free book at Barnes & Noble by listing 8 books read on their special sheet. You can get it at any B&N store. You can count those same 8 books for Rivers, too. Just be sure to read at least 10 books for our Rivers Summer Reading Honor Roll. Don't stop with 8!

  • READ, READ, READ! Don't let your brains go to sleep on you! Let's have the longest Honor Roll posted for 2008-2009 in the history of E. Rivers Elementary School!

Create a summer calendar with your favorites or simply make a list or link available.

"Children and teachers need library resources -- especially books -- and the expertise of a librarian to succeed. Books, information technology, and school librarians who are part of the schools' professional team are basic ingredients for student achievement."

Laura Bush, First Lady & former librarian

Be an advocate for your Library!

Save America's Libraries

1. Stay informed about advocacy activities of  the ALA and your state association.

2. Let the public, legislators and colleagues know what great things the library offers!

3. Encourage library users to share their stories.  Make it easy to share success stories -- provide these "Peach of a library" cards at the desk for quick responses. Then display/send to legislators.
